The performance engages with translation as an “act of trust.” With a sensitive and intimate setting “Distance has 8 letters” achieved through a careful listening, transmitting and channeling language as an ancestral-generational minimalistic art installation. The use of Chilean Spanish, Mapuche and English and the silence create a choir and a space of listening, confusion and scattered narratives.
Through the methodology of simultaneous translation, the performance proposes a different way of listening. The sound of a colonial story in the background is mixed with the voice of the performer, who decides what is translated and therefore transmitted.
Finally, the setup of the proposition is simply but direct: a 2.5 by 4 meter large fabric with embroidered writing as a cosmology and songs of love and fight, that creates a sacred space of sharing and transmittions.
